Humanist Education in Schools

HUMAN carried out an education campaign project focusing on the school students and teachers especially in the areas where the frequency of the superstition induced events such as alleged witchcraft practices, paranormal healing, religious dogma and fatalism are more prevalent.  The campaign project was implemented in primary and secondary schools in the country.  The objective of the humanist education campaign was to cultivate the humanist values, scientific outlook and rational thinking in the minds of the younger generation and mobilize the youths; students and the schoolteachers to protect the innocent individuals and potential victims from superstition induced social evils.

The campaign focused on the superstition, fatalism, irrational practices, untouchability etc. and examined the consequences of such practices to the society.  The responses from teachers and students were highly encouraging.  Such campaign activities must be initiated and expanded in other areas.  Because of the financial and the infrastructure constraints, HUMAN is facing problems in initiating and expanding its activities.  It has prepared a reference educational material to disseminate humanism and its secular philosophy among the masses in vernacular language.  Humanist education, awareness raising campaign and right based advocacy constitute the principle activities of HUMAN at present.
